| Empty the recycle bin |
When files are deleted from your PC they remain in the recycle bin and still take up space - empty the recycle bin frequently.

Check the hard disk for errors |
Power surges, spikes and the computer crashing can all cause disk errors which result in the computer running slowly trying to read files from the disk. The hard disk should be checked for errors regularly.
